This has two sections: 'The case against', and 'The alternatives', covering topics such as women's prisons, prostitution, drug addiction, legal representation, Community Programmes and Family projects.

* Excerpt from 'Principles and Practice of Forensic Psychiatry', edited by Robert Bluglass and Paul Bowden. Churchill Livingstone, 1990. This chapter relates specifically to 'baby-snatching'.

* Two published items sent to Betty Jerman, with an attached letter from Ann McFerran of the Radio Times, 4 Mar 1974: 'Every trip has terror in store', published letter in the Evening News and Star, 10 Oct 1972, from a mother relating her experiences that led her to nearly steal a baby. 'Baby Stealing' in the British Medical Journal, 10 Jun 1972, pages 635-639. This article analyses 13 cases of abduction of babies by women.
