Surrealist prose poem 'Petron' published 1935. Published three novels 1950-60, 'The Papers of Andrew Melmoth'(1960) being the best known. Appointed College Rat Catcher 1967. Concentrated his critical talents on Wordsworth's poetry for last 20 years of his life, becoming a Trustee of Dove Cottage and having 'Wordsworth and the Worth of Words' published posthumously in 1986.
