Roger McMeeking


Roger McMeeking (1935-2011) started at the University in June 1964 and for many years was its Bursar, overseeing the University's estate, building programmes and campus services. He working closely with colleagues and the City of York on the development of the Science Park and was its first chairman. A key member of the University's community and one of its senior officers, he was also Deputy Provost of the newly established Wentworth college from 1 October 1972 until 30 September 1976. He retired from the University in 1997.

Roger McMeeking also served on the boards of numerous organisations in the city, including the York Archaeological Trust, York Civic Trust, the National Centre for Early Music, the York Millennium Bridge Trust and Yorkshire Film Archive. He was also chairman of the City of York Council’s standards committee and co-founder of the York Film Theatre (which eventually became the City Screen).
