Scope and Content

From academic and poet, Brian Cox (b. 1928). /1 is written from the Department of English at the University of California and refers to: his trip from home and the year he has spent in Berkeley, which he describes ("I don't think I could live here. I feel English, and to live here would be to abandon one's involvement in a community"); his regret that he will not see Nicholson at Scarborough; his opinions on Nicholson's Nativity poems [later published in No Star on the Way Back (1967)], whose "simplicity and wit" he finds attractive. /2 is written from the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Manchester and is an invitation to Nicholson to contribute some of his new poems to Cox's periodical Critical Quarterly.

Dated at: Berkeley, California, USA; and Manchester, England.

Typescript with autograph; /2 includes envelope.
