Letter

Scope and Content

From Just Thorning of Denmark, who refers to a Danish production of Nicholson's The Old Man of the Mountains in June 1954, and introduces himself. He and his wife are the pioneers of the Danish amateur theatre movement, and founders of the 'Dansk Amatör Teater Samvirke'. He has been involved in producing various English plays, has connections with the British Drama League, and is visiting England at the end of September. He mentions that he was the first person to draw attention to religious and poetical drama in Denmark, and he thinks their production of Nicholson's play stood out for its strength and simplicity. He claims he is enclosing a programme [this was not stored with the letter but is probably a reference to one of the programmes in NCN9/1/1/16-17], and a translation of a letter he received about the performance. This letter in praise of the production, from well-known Danish author Karen Aabye, is enclosed.

Dated at: Charlottenlund, Denmark.
