Administrative / Biographical History
On 26 November 1900, Doncaster Borough council, at a meeting of the council-in-committee, recommended that all Doncaster residents who had volunteered to serve in the Boer War be admitted as honorary freemen of the borough (Doncaster Archives ref AB/2/2/6). On 13 December 1901, the council-in-committee further recommended that `a suitable token in gold, not to exceed £2 be presented to each of the honorary freemen (Doncaster Archives ref AB/2/2/7). Presentations took place at meetings of the borough council on 10 April 1902, 13 August 1902, 19 November 1902, 18 November 1902 and 10 August 1902 (Doncaster Archives AB/2/2/10).
