Papers of the Co-operative College in response to the Co-operative Commission

Scope and Content

This box file contains the papers created in the process of composing the formal submission to the Co-operative Commission, as well as documents relating to the Commission's report after its publication.

In relation to the composing of the submission t

 o the Co-operative Commission in Jul 2000, the box file includes:

-drafts and a copy of their report;

-printed, annotated slides, drafts and acetate slides of the presentation made by Meryvn Wilson (the principle of the College) to the Co-operative Commission at the Regional Hearings of the submissions;

-correspondence between the College and other co-operatives;

-copies of others' submissions and presentations to the Commission, some annotated;

-a copy of the Members magazine for Spring 2000;

-papers from the Co-operative Congress and Regional Hearings relating to the Commission, including biographies of the commission members and scripts of presentations given by the Commission;

-copies of documents from the Commission's pack of programme of events, introducing the committee and prompting responses to its work.

The box file also includes:

-papers created by the College after the Commission's report, including printed and annotated sections of the Co-operative Commission's final report;

-a draft report on promoting co-operatives, prepared by and presented at the International Labour Organisation's conference in Jun 2001, with related correspondence.

Custodial History

This box file was not given to the National Co-operative Archive with the Co-operative Commission papers. The box was found in the Holyoake House basement by Gillian Lonergan (Head of Heritage) and amalgamated into the Commission collection in Feb 2010.
