Topics covered include: the valuation of some jewels, trinkets and paintings; family news (Samuel's daughter Beatrix seems to have been staying with him); refers to an affair relating to Sir Nat[haniel] Curzon [Sir Ralph Assheton's grandson, later to be created 1st Baron Scarsdale]; asks Samuel to use his influence with the Chief Justice to excuse Tatton's brother from standing sheriff for the county.
