Scope and Content

This series consists of papers relating to a Jane Revell, possibly a ward of Samuel Egerton. He seems to have been supporting her financially and directing her education for a time, funding in particular her attainment of the 'accomplishments' necessary for a marriageable young lady in the 18th century; she appears to have lived with the family at Tatton Park during this time. The papers are primarily made up of bills and receipts: for items such as clothes, shoes, hats, and fans, mainly purchased in London, and for tuition in playing the harpsichord, drawing and possibly also in French. In addition, 3/7/4/16 and 17 are papers relating to proposals made for Miss Revel's marriage settlement with Mr Warren, whom she appears to have married by 1760. 3/7/4/18 is an inventory of the linen at Mr Thomas Revel's house in Fetcham, Surrey.
