Letters from Thomas Hill [Samuel's cousin, the son of Margaret and Thomas Harwood, who also took the name of Hill in honour of his uncle Richard]. Topics covered include: financial affairs, such as various mortgages in which Samuel is involved, particularly that of Lord [Edward Harley, the 2nd Earl of] Oxford; family news, such as the death of his baby, visits between the two families, and condolences on the death of "sister Egerton" in 1744 [ie. Elizabeth, Samuel's sister]; current affairs, such as the death of the Queen [Caroline] in 1737 and war with France.
