Administrative / Biographical History

The Pritchard Family have links with Glamorgan through Job Pritchard who moved from Talgarth, mid Wales, in the mid 1870s. In 1879 he married Catherine Lewis, the daughter of William Lewis, who was forge carpenter at the Melingriffith Works at Whitchurch. They had a son Thomas William Pritchard (1880-1961) who became a Director of the British Dominions Steam Ship Company Limited, Cardiff.

The Company was incorporated on 3 July 1919 and in addition to Thomas William Pritchard it had as its Director Jonathan Moore Smith of Yorkshire. During 1929 a dispute between the Midland Bank and the Company led to the Bank foreclosing and this was followed by an extended period of litigation. During 1944 the Midland Bank made an offer of £7500 which was accepted and the Company continued with money being invested in other companies. Thomas William Pritchard died February 1961 and his son, Ronald Pritchard, who had been made a Director c1946, called an Extrarodinary Meeting and the Company was wound up in 1963.

By the early twentieth century members of the family were attending Hawthorn School and All Saints Church in Llandaff North and were members of the Llandaff North Tennis Club.
