Correspondence, 1883-1937, relating to a variety of topics including loans of sums by Bowles to local inhabitants (eg ‘for a pair of boots as I am going to start work on Monday’), arrangement of garden visits, correspondents’ health, the sending of plants, parochial work including the granting of a parochial reader’s licence to Bowles in 1913, the RHS Scientific Committee and Narcissus Committee, Bowles’ service with charitable bodies including the governing body of Enfield Grammar School and Cheshunt Horticultural Experimental Station, and frost enquiries.
