Fork, metal tines, wood handle, outer tines removed, two inner tines remain, ‘Griffin’ embossed on metal along handle. Undated [early 20th cent]. Dimensions 11.5 (w) x 69.4 (h) x 4.4 (d) cm. Maker, Griffin

Bowles customised standard forks by removing the two outer tines to create what he described as ‘a lovely giant toothpick that almost always accompanies me when in the garden’ (‘My Garden in Spring’, 1914)

This object was transferred to the Library in 2013. It was previously displayed at Bowles Corner in RHS Garden Wisley. It was not known how it came to be at Wisley
