John Herd Bruce: Voluntary Exercises in Algebra, Madras College, St Andrews, with improving aphorisms and sundry decorative photographs, pictorial scraps and drawings.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Herd Bruce (b.1859) was the son of George Brown Bruce, cabinet maker in St Andrews, and Sophie Herd. He attended Madras College and then the United College of St Andrews University in 1878-1879. He studied medicine at Edinburgh University the following year; however his name does not appear in the Medical Register.

1877-1878 volumes:

Binding: Vol.I Black morocco; Vol.II Blue morocco.

Paper: Vol.I 18.5x23cm; Vol.II 11.3x18.2cm.

Both have 'J.H. BRUCE 1877-78' in gold lettering on front cover.
