Typescript diaries

Scope and Content

Typescript diaries of Platt's foreign visits and lecture tours, based on manuscript diaries which he kept on his travels. Platt visited hospitals and clinics, and met important surgeons and dignitaries. Some of these typescripts were produced as reports to the British Council, as they had organised the lecture tours. Others are less official reports on orthopaedic services and surgical education in particular countries or institutions. Most of the typescripts are detailed accounts of visits, showing activities undertaken by Platt and his personal impressions. These diaries cover visits in the period 1928 to 1961, but many appear to have been copied from the original diaries some time later. Most of the diaries were annotated or retyped in 1978 when Platt distributed copies to many of his friends and colleagues.
