Scope and Content

Hyde After-care Clinic was founded by Lancashire County Council in the mid 1920s to provide local care for patients treated at specialist orthopaedic hospitals. The clinic was managed by the Hyde Orthopaedic After-Care Committee with Platt as honorary consulting surgeon. Platt saw the first patients in 1925, but H. Poston was later appointed surgeon in charge and Platt visited the clinic every six weeks. Much of the work of the Clinic was devoted to babies and young children and the Clinic worked closely with Ancoats Hospital. Hyde Clinic celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 1985, and is now named the Hyde Physiotherapy Centre, and managed by Hyde Orthopaedic Committee. This file contains photocopies of the first two reports of the After-Care Committee and a photocopy of material relating to the history of the Clinic from a meeting during the Diamond Jubilee.
