When the direct line of descent was broken the estates became vested in John Hull. He died in 1813, and was succeeded by his brother-in-law Rev Richard Buck, son of Christopher Buck, a landed proprietor near Preston. He in turn was succeeded by his son John, who, in 1867, took the name of Dauntesey. When John died unmarried the estate passed to his sister Catherine Dauntesey Foxton. Catherine died in 1878 and was succeeded by her great nephew Lieutenant Robert Hull, eldest son of RP Hull Brown of Ambleside. Hull took the name Dauntesey, in accordance with a clause in Catherine's will.
