Programmes, newscuttings and photograph produced at the time of the golden jubilee celebrations held in Manchester to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Gaiety Theatre. A revival of Hindle Wakes was produced at the city's Library Theatre in Sep 1958 to commemorate AEHF's first season at the refurbished Gaiety 50 years earlier: the Library Theatre was home to a resident repertory company which was formed in 1952 with the aim of reviving the repertory ideal in Manchester. In addition, a documentary exhibition, 'Fifty years of Manchester Repertory', was held in the Library's Exhibition Hall. The material consists of: /1, a souvenir programme (with 3 additional duplicated leaves) for the production of Hindle Wakes; /2, a photographic plate from the same programme depicting Sybil Thorndike and Lewis Casson, with a page of handwritten notes on Sybil Thorndike's impressions of AEFH; /3, 2 newscuttings relating to the production of Hindle Wakes; /4, 2 newscuttings of articles about the Gaiety Theatre, written by Lewis Casson and L. du Garde Peach; /5, 2 newscuttings relating to the jubilee celebrations; /6, a photographic print of Marjorie Garrod, with Basil Dean and a city official at the Hindle Wakes revival.
