Administrative / Biographical History
John Clegg (1909-1998) was born in Ormskirk in Lancashire 7th April 1909. In the second world war he became a squadron leader, eventually in command of a photographic service experience in Ceylon and Singapore.
In 1949 he was Curator of Haslemere Educational Museum, until 1962, when he was Education Officer for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds at Sandy in Buckinghamshire
He was asked to be consultant to Frederick Warne [Publishers] LTD, later Penguin Books
After retirement he lived and worked for the Freshwater Biological Association in Windermere Cumbria, then going to live at Grange Over Sands
Awards granted include the 1996 Peter Scott Memorial Award by the Council of the British Naturalists' Association in recognition to contributions to natural history and conservation.
