Papers relating to a proposed honorary degree ceremony for the ambassadors of the United States, Soviet Union and China ( J.G. Winant, Ivan Maisky, Wellington Koo), which was to have been held in 1942. The ceremony did not in the event take place, due to difficulties in arranging a date when all three individuals could be present. Maisky declined the honour, and recommended that it should be conferred instead on Professor Komarov, president of the Soviet Academy of Science. Komarov was unable to attend the ceremony, and so this degree was never conferred. Winant's degree was conferred in 1945, while the degree for Wellington Koo was conferred in absentia in 1946.
