Administrative / Biographical History

The National Union of Boot and Shoe Rivetters and Finishers was renamed the National Union of Boot and Shoe Operatives in 1895. In 1971 it merged with the Amalgamated Society of Leather Workers, the National Union of Leather Workers and Allied Trades and the National Union of Glovers and Leatherworkers to form the National Union of the Footwear, Leather and Allied Trades (NUFLAT). In 1991 the amalgamation of the National Union of the Footwear, Leather and Allied Trades with the National Union of Hosiery and Knitwear Workers formed the National Union of Knitwear, Footwear and Apparel Trades (KFAT).

Also contains material from the Rossendale Union of Boot, Shoe and Slipper Operatives.
