Great Warford

Scope and Content

Great Warford was a township in Alderley parish, Cheshire; grid ref. SJ8177. It became a civil parish under the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1866, and between 1894 and 1974 it was part of Macclesfield Rural District.

Material comprises records of the Overseers of the Poor, including settlement certificates, removal orders, bastardy orders, apprenticeship indentures, bonds, summonses, arrest warrants, statements of account and election papers, a register of township officers, a township meetings minute book, a receipt and payment account book, rate books, a return of men qualified to serve on juries, and a rating valuation book, 1702-1913 (DP/3/5/1-9); records of the Parish Council, including councillors' declarations, a Parish Council minute book, and minute books of various committees, 1894-1923 (DP/3/5/10-16); a tithe rent charge apportionment book, 1887 (DP/3/5/17); and a minute book, cash book and Charity Commission and Board of Education papers relating to the Wesleyan Day School, 1883-1912 (DP/3/5/18-20).
