Scope and Content

The Royal Foresters was a friendly society originating in Yorkshire, c. 1813. The Ancient Order of Foresters was a breakaway group, formed in 1834. The Foresters are made up of affiliated branches and courts, one of which was Court Royal Standard No. 4495, Summerhill, Wrexham, Denbighshire, active from 1872 to 1978. Most branches were affiliated to Districts. The Ancient Order of Foresters is a friendly society, providing mutual financial support, insurance and savings support for its members; it is now known as Foresters Friendly Society.

Scope and content: Directories, reports and leaflets of the Ancient Order of Foresters, 1967-1970; Court Royal Standard No. 4495 records, 1872-1978, including minutes, 1939-1961, photographs, [c. 1880]-[c. 1900], ledger, 1872-1978, and registers, 1873-1970; and items relating to the Stockport District, 1958-1972.
