Webster studied at Manchester Royal School of Medicine and qualified in 1870-1. He later took a MD from the University of Brussels. He was a medical officer at Chorlton Union Hospital [later Withington Hospital Manchester], but spent most of his career in London where he was medical superintendent at St. George's Infirmary.
