Administrative / Biographical History

Urmston Cottage Hospital was opened in 1900 general voluntary hospital with ten beds. As a cottage hospital, patients were usually treated by their own practitioners. Most patients came from Urmston and Flixton. The Hospital concentrated on district nursing and out-patients, though there were some acute patients. Urmston Cottage Hospital was later mostly used for maternity cases, and this continued under the NHS. The Hospital closed in 1980.
