Papers concerning the work of the department of industrial medicine, which was set up in 1945 to provide courses and conduct research in occupational health issues. Ronald Lane was appointed as a part-time professor of industrial health in 1945 (the change was changed to occupational health in 1947), the first such appointment made in the UK. The papers concern employment of staff, provision of courses in industrial nursing, a report of a visit to USA by Professor Lane in 1946 to study industrial medicine and correspondence with the Nuffield Foundation, concerning funding of the department.
