Includes initial research at Jodrell Bank, (cosmic ray), including a memo by Bernard Lovell "Physics at the Jodrell Bank Experimental Station" [1947], grant by DSIR and Nuffield Foundation for the Mark 1 telescope, a paper by Lovell "The relationship between Jodrell Bank and the University" (1955), which assesses research to date The issue of rising costs and the 1956 commission of inquiry, and the tracking of the first Sputnik satellite.
