Correspondence and papers concerning the background to the establishment of the British Cotton Industry Research Association. Most of the material relates to discussions between the University and cotton industry representatives about issues such as provision of courses in management, education by University staff and research into cotton-growing. Much of the interest behind these schemes came from the Textile Institute and from John McConnel (McConnel &Co. Ltd., Fine Cotton Spinners' &Doublers' Association).
The file contains copies of The Textile Recorder, 15 May 1918; Scientific research in relation to cotton and the cotton industry, (Manchester 1918); and a Board of Education memorandumMemorandum on the teaching of cotton spinning and cotton manufacture in evening technical schools (1917).
