Scope and Content

Papers relating to the Department of Geography. In 1930 H J Fleure became the first professor of geography at the University, and was succeeded by Walter Fitzgerald in 1944. Subjects covered in the file include: travelling grants, a memorial fund for W H Barker, a former reader in geography, research projects in Yemen and the Isle of Man, a memorandum on postgraduate work by Fleure, (1936), a memorandum on staffing by Fitzgerald (1935), war work of staff members, and complaints about departmental morale (1945), There are also discrete groups of papers relating to the acquisition of a map collections from Dudley Mills (1929-1937) and a student project on the geography of Frodsham, Cheshire (Folders 3 and 4 respectively).
