Correspondence and papers relating to the management of the Royal Manchester College of Music. The College was founded in 1893 to encourage musical education. The College enjoyed close relations with the University, with the chairmanship of its Council being held by successive vice-chancellors of the University from 1900. In 1972 the College became part of the Northern College of Music in 1972 and surrendered its Royal Charter the following year. The Northern College of Music was then renamed the Royal Northern College of Music.
