Scope and Content

The Institution was a local organization, which had previously owned and administered the City Art Gallery. It retained residual interests in the management of the Gallery after it was transferred to the City Council, and had the right to appoint members to the Council's Cultural Committee. For many years, the University vice-chancellor had been a Governor of the RMI. In 1970, its rights of nomination were transferred to the University. In 1973, the Institution was wound up. The content of the file relates mainly to the transfer of the rights of nomination, and the dissolution of the Institution.
