Scope and Content

Correspondence and papers relating to the application of the Burnham Report on teachers salaries (1920). The Report introduced a salary structure for teachers in secondary schools, the Burnham Scale, which offered higher pay to those graduate teachers with a 'good honours degree'. The papers relate to the definition of this term, particularly whether it was restricted to first class honours degrees. The correspondents include other university vice-chancellors and the Universities Bureau of the British Empire.
