Format

We recommend that a the 'origination' name matches an index entry, and the format is surname, forename, dates. ISAD(G) recommends using national conventions, which tend to be NCA Rules for the UK.

Collection/Component level

Recommended at collection level. Useful at component level to describe authors of particular materials, e.g. within correspondence files.

Tips/Recommendations

It is important to ensure the individual or organisation is correctly identified and non-ambiguous, so use life dates if possible, and add epithets as descriptors.The Editor provides for adding a VIAF ID which gives unambiguous identification.
