The National Foremen's Association was founded in 1918. In 1929, after several years of negotiation, it fused with the Amalgamated Managers' and Foremen's Association. The Association altered its title to the Association of Supervisory Staffs and Engineering Technicians in February 1942. In 1946 it altered its title to the Association of Supervisory Staffs, Executives and Technicians. In 1968 it amalgamated with the Association of Scientific Workers to form the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs.
