Administrative/Biographical History compiled with reference to
Sir George Herbert Farrar, 1st Baronet (1911), was born on the 17 June 1859. He served in the South African War, 1899-1900, and was Chairman of the East Rand Proprietary Mines. Farrar was awarded the DSO (1900) and Kt (1902). He died on the 19 May 1915.
Memoirs of Sir George Farrar assembled into seven typewritten chapters by his daughter, Viscountess Muriel Frances Lowther. The memoirs describe the foundation of Farrar's family firm of mining engineers, his part in the Johannesburg Reform Movement and imprisonment after the Jameson Raid, with associated letters on current South African politics, etc.
