Henry Turner was born in 1792 and became a Unitarian minister, first in Bradford (1813) and then in Nottingham (1817), where the Turner family played a significant role in the nineteenth-century history of High Pavement Chapel. Turner's sermons were published in 1822.
The manuscript text of Henry Turner's essay is given in 133 pages of fair copy (with some annotations and corrections) in a bound quarto sized volume. It is entitled: 'An essay on the nature and design of sacrifices under the mosaic law and the influence which Jewish ideas and language concerning them, had upon the language of the New Testament.' A note at the end gives the place and date of creation as Nottingham, 1 September 1820.
