Fred Gray studied at the University of Hull between 1968 and 1971 before completing his PhD in Geography at Cambridge University. In 1974 he became a research fellow at Sussex University. During his tenure at Sussex University he served as the Director of the Centre for Continuing Education for over a decade, as the Dean of the Sussex Institute (2002-2009) and as the Academic Director of Local and Regional Relationships (2009-2011). He is now an Emeritus Professor of Continuing Education.
Alongside his academic career, Professor Gray is a Director of the West Pier Trust, for whom he also acts as honorary historian and archivist, and the Brighton Fishing Museum Trust. He has also served as a board member for the Brighton Dome and Festival, Varndean College Brighton and the Gardner Arts Centre.
This small collection contains various items relating to Hull University Students' Union and other student societies and activities, including copies of Hull Union Daily Information newsletters, Union agenda, copies of PIG magazine, copies of WORM magazine and several items relating to the Socialist Party of Great Britain Society.
