The Eastern Association was an alliance of counties that supported the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War. This statement of accounts was presumably drawn up for Edward Montagu (1602-1671), 2nd Earl of Manchester, Major General of the Eastern Association's army, 1643-1645, from whose family papers it derives.
A statement of monies received and disbursed for military purposes by Thomas Buckley of Cambridge, 20 April-2 November 1643, in his role as treasurer of the Association of Eastern Counties. The statement records the proportion paid to each county 'truly collected out of the bookes of Accomptes belonginge to the sayd Treasurer; examined & agreeable with the Orders (for payments) from the sayd Committee, under theire hands; & caste up per John Welbore gent'.
