Sir Thomas Simson Pratt (1797-1879) joined the army in 1814. He commanded land forces on the China Expedition, 1841, and in the assaults on Fort Chuenpi and the Bogue Forts, and was present at Canton, Shanghai, Nanking, and the signing of the peace treaty on HMS
