As well as being a member of the clergy, William Hughes was also a prolific writer. Born in Bangor, Gwynedd in 1849, the son of a seaman, he received his education at St. David's College, Lampeter. He went on to become curate of Glasinfryn, Caernarfonshire, and later, in 1880, became vicar of Llanuwchllyn, Merioneth. He died in 1920.
