Streatham Methodist circuit, trustees' records

Scope and Content

The material mainly concerns the appointment of trustees. Each appointment document lists trustees, and their address, who are standing down, remaining and taking up office. Other important documents are the General Register Office's permissions for the churches to conduct marriages.

Administrative / Biographical History

Within the Methodist church, the trustees are the most senior administrative, managerial and policy making body. They are responsible for their respective church's building fabric, the nature of worship and for the appointment of the minister.

The Streatham Circuit comprises three churches: Streatham, Riggindale Rd, SW16 1QH; Norbury, 2a Pollards Hill North, SW16 4NL, and Tulse Hill, 138 Christchurch Rd SW2 3DQ, previously known as Roupell Park Methodist Church. The circuit has the Methodist church's reference code 35/27

IV/298/3/1-2. Norbury Methodist Church, certificate of worship, June 1905 and certificate to solemnize marriages were transferred to Croydon Methodist Circuit on 29.04.14.

Custodial History
