Papers of Dr Arnold Ivor McMullen

Scope and Content

The collection consists of one box of reports by A.I. McMullen and original papers relating to his work, two boxes of visual material which includes photographs and glass and film slides and three box containing video and film material.

The material focuses completely on his research and his fieldwork in countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Bahrain and Turkey.

Administrative / Biographical History

Arnold Ivor McMullen BSc PhD was a Research Scientist who developed the first non-toxic materials.

Across the 1970s and 1980s he assisted with field trips with the LSHTM while holding other posts in the field of chemical research.

In the early 1970s he worked with the Microbiological Research Establishment in Porton Down, Wiltshire.

He then went on to be a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bath between September 1972 and August 1975. His post was based in the microbiology group within the School of Biological Sciences and was funded by a three year grant from the Ministry of Defence.

Dr McMullen then went to work for the University of Southampton in the Medical Research Council Unit as a Professional Research Fellow. This he did between 1976 and 1979, after which he became Science research fellow.

By 1979 McMullen was also working with C.I. Insect Control Ltd. in Wiltshire, and did so well in to the 1980s.

He died in 1996.
