Record book of seeds sown at Oakwood, Wisley (closed to public access until conservation has been carried out)

Scope and Content

This volume is closed to public access until conservation has been carried out, due to being fragile and unfit for production. The volume has been digitised and images are available for consultation

Entries comprise Bed 10924 to Bed 13748. Information is recorded mostly in pencil, in G.F. Wilson's hand. Approximately 10 to 14 entries per page. The date is recorded as a heading, and each entry comprises a running bed number, the name or variety of plant, and occasional notes, eg 'Douglas' and 'One of these taken for Leichtlin'

Bed numbers from the planting volumes are occasionally included in the Oakwood garden journals, 1888-1902, ref RHS/WY/Owd/1/1-14, to indicate plants in bloom in the garden

Condition: Fragile. Unfit for production. Binding is disintegrating; cloth and tape have been used in rudimentary repairs; covers worn and corners worn away; one page completely loose and curled around edges; other pages reasonably robust, many dirty; text is in pencil which is therefore at risk of loss; incorrectly labelled on cover in biro ink, 'M12/4. RHS Garden Kensington 1887-1890 Seed Bed Records'
