Administrative / Biographical History

Marcus Christopher Rossi Braybrooke (b. 1938) was educated at Cranleigh School; Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he obtained his BA and MA; Madras Christian College; Wells Theological College and King's College, London, where he obtained an MPhil. He was curate at St Michael's, Highgate, 1964-7; team vicar, Strood Clergy Team, 1967-73; rector, Swainswick, Langridge, Woolley, 1973-9; director of training for the Diocese of Bath and Wells, 1979 84; priest in charge, Christ Church, Bath, 1984-91; examining chaplain to the Bishop of Bath and Wells, 1984-8; prebendary of Wells Cathedral, 1990-3, and chaplain of the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, Bath, 1992-3. In 1993 he became non-stipendiary priest, Marsh and Toot Baldon, Dorchester Team Ministry, Oxford. Since 1986 Braybrooke has been a Vice President of the World Congress of Faiths. He has also acted as Chairman of the International Committee, 1988-93; Chairman of the International Inter-faith Organisations Co-ordinating Committee, 1990-3; and Chairman of the World Congress of Faiths, 1978-83, and from 1992. Braybrooke was Executive Director of the Council of Christians and Jews, 1984 7. He was editor of WORLD FAITH INSIGHT, 1976 91, and has edited COMMON GROUND since 1987. He is the author of TOGETHER TO THE TRUTH: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SOME DEVELOPEMENTS IN HINDU AND CHRISTIAN THOUGHT SINCE 1800 (Madras, 1971); INTERFAITH ORGANIZATIONS: A HISTORICAL DIRECTORY (1980); TIME TO MEET: TOWARDS A DEEPER RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JEWS AND CHRISTIANS (London, 1990); and CHILDREN OF ONE GOD: THE HISTORY OF THE COUNCIL OF CHIRSTIANS AND JEWS (London, 1991).
