Editorial contentslisted, with longer tri-lingual summaries. Regular Thinking Ahead feature maintained, also listsof new British trademarks. New feature The Background is Britain, introduced in 5/1949.

1949 July

No 7/1949. Front cover design by Graham Sutherland. Ads include cloth patterns. Editorials on significance of foreign buyers, and on differing staff approaches to the display of fine materials. Articles on coats, linen (dress & household), knitting wools, and contemporary British Tapestry as produced by the Edinburgh Tapestry Co. Background is Britain continues.

1949 Aug

No 8/1949. Front cover illustration of "Turner at Petworth" links with main feature on this subject, written by Sir Kenneth Clark and illustrated from Turner's sketchbooks. Articles on Couture Fabrics, and wholesale classics, also Background is Britain.

1949 Sep

No 9/1949. Editorial announcement of the Ambassador's sponsorship of London fashion houses' productions for the Ballerinas and Corps de Ballet of the Sadler's Wells Ballet Company,about to tour U.S.A. and Canada. Issue includes articles on menswear, London Furs, and main types of mass produced carpets. Selection of entries for window dressing competition, and Background is Britain.

1949 Oct

No 10/1949. Editorial contents devoted to London Fashions for the English Ballet (see above). Having named the ballerinas and Corps de Ballet, also supplies of fabrics, clothes and accessories, the main feature illustrates some of the models of fabrics chosen for the ballerinas, plus (wholesale) travel clothes, sweaters, shoes etc. Thinking Ahead feature continues, but not Background is Britain.

1949 Nov

No 11/1949. Lead feature on repercussions within U.S.A. of Sadler's Wells Ballet visit including trade factors. Golden Jubilee of the Calico Printers' Association also featured. Articles on London fashions, and Tartans. Background is Britain briefly resumed.

1949 Dec

No 12/1949. Lead feature entitled 'Once He Was Gaudier', historical survey of men's fashions. Also promotion for Viyella, and an article on Modern Textiles, 1500 years old, illustrated with fabrics from V & A Museum. Thinking Ahead deals with North America Triangle (G.B., Canada & U.S.A.).
