Scope and Content

This box contains loose material from Charlot's early working life, specifically contract agreements between André Charlot ("the Manager") and "the Artist" (eg. Gene Gerrard, Miss Gertie Lawrence, Miss Binnie Hale, and Arthur Riscoe); "Harry Grattan's impressions of his revue at the Playhouse" illustrations; a photograph of Gertrude Lawrence in costume; a GH Stanton illustration; a licence from the Lord Chamberlain for "The Three Wise Fools"; "Souvenir of the Great Stage Ball and Pageant of Plays & Players" with (stamped) signatures; a programmes for a "Matinee in aid of the Red Cross" and for His Majesty's Theatre; "The Play Pictorial" journal for "5064 Gerrard!"; illustrations for "Bran Pie" and "Wild Geese"; set design illustrations; an autographed photograph "To Dear Mr. & Mrs. Charlot With my sincere thanks from Sophie Tucker, London, 1922"; and Bruce Bairnsfather's "Fragments from France" cartoons.
