Scope and Content

Very large volume embossed on spine "Royal Academy Catalogues, Illustrated with Prints, Drawings and Manuscripts, Part 1". Also a frontispiece repeating this information. Actually contains (stuck into the volume) printing proofs for illustrations, Christmas cards, book covers and designs for film posters and advertising material by Piper. Includes two sets of proofs, in two different colours, for JM Richard's 'The Castles in the Ground', Architectural Press 1947; proofs for 'The Traveller' by Walter de la Mare, Faber 1947; and illustration entitled 'Street scene from Gloriana' [opera, Benjamin Britten]; film posters/ advertising material for Ealing Studios films 'Painted Boats' directed by Charles Crichton, 'Frieda' directed by Basil Dearden, 1947 and 'The Bells Go Down'. Also some unidentified illustrations and design work.

Includes reproductions and photographs of works of art by Piper and other artists.

Orientation reversed at rear of volume. Inscribed on back page top right "For John with best wishes from Osbert Christmas 1943". Also contains life drawings of female models. Only 3 pages.
