Scope and Content

Research notes and papers, photographs and publications relating to the history of Riccarton, Currie, Balerno and other communities in the south west of Edinburgh; and to the paper making industry in that area.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Tweedie spent his working life in Kinleith Mill, Currie. In his spare time he ammassed a rich archive comprising original and copy photographs and research notes and publications on all aspects of local history. the photographs have been digitised and catalogued separately.

The collection is arranged and listed by theme and location.

By appointment. Access to records in a fragile condition may be restricted.

Conditions Governing Use

Photocopies and photographic copies can be supplied for educational use and private study purposes only, depending on the condition of the documents. Permission to publish material from the Archive must be sought in advance from the University Archivist. Responsibility for obtaining copyright clearance rests with the applicant.

Custodial History

The collection was deposited with the University Archive by Mr Tweedie's family in 1988.
