Various numbered sheets in typescript. A comparison between this typescript text and the complete typescript (Add MS 88938/3/19/4), suggests that these sheets are from an earlier stage in the revision process, although the differences are not substantial. Thus, on sheet 268 (Chapter 19), 'he clung doggedly to his uncertain credo' becomes, in the complete typescript, 'Crawford doggedly recited his uncertain credo' (which is identical to the published text). Similarly, on sheet 339 (Chapter 24), 'As he is at the Club Nautico' becomes, in the complete typescript, 'the same post he held at the Club Nautico' (which is, again, identical to the published text).
This file contains two groups of numbered sheets, maintained as such by Ballard:
1. Six sheets, numbered: 122, 123, 124, 397, 398, and 398a.
2. A more extensive group of sheets, numbered: 1-9, 139-47, 248-408.
