1. To Tacita Dean (22 October 2007). Photocopy typescript without signature (1 sheet), referring to the earthwork sculpture 'Spiral Jetty' (1970) by Robert Smithson. Together with a photocopy of Ballard, 'Robert Smithson as Cargo Cultist' (1 sheet): 'Attached is a piece I wrote about ten years ago for a New York gallery that was showing something by Smithson. You mentioned my story The Voices of Time, and this Smithson piece contains most of its themes'. (The photocopies have been made on the versos of two unmarked page proofs from the story 'The Man Who Walked on the Moon'.)
2. To Tacita Dean (4 December 2007). Photocopy of autograph letter (2 sheets): 'I think a Tacita Dean film about Spiral Jetty will be fabulous'. Ballard advises that his agent is 'trying to interest various TV companies in doing a series of JGB short stories' which precludes Dean from incorporating 'The Voices of Time' in her proposed film. (The letter has been photocopied on the versos of two unmarked typescript pages from Cocaine Nights.)
3. To Marjorie Heath (2 September 1997). Photocopy autograph letter (2 sheets) referring to blood sacrifice and human cruelty - see Heath to Ballard, 22 August (Add MS 88938/2/1/1).
4. To David Leland (5 September 1997, signed typescript fax, 2 sheets): 'The Running Wild script is very powerful [...] I think it will make a stunning film'. Continues with further thoughts on the character Remington. The fax is accompanied by a brief fax, of the same date, from Ballard to Kate Lenahan, requesting Leland's office fax number. 5. To Veronique Noe (single sheet autograph fax, 27 May, 1997), with reference to Helmut Newton and acknowledging receipt of 'Illustrated No. 4'. The lower half of the message is a photocopied extract from an interview with Ballard published in Frieze (34) in which Ballard comments: 'since the death of Francis Bacon, the most important visual artist at work today is Helmut Newton'.
6. To Mr Price (single sheet autograph copy fax, 31 October 1998), providing a paragraph of comment about Mark Dery, The Pyrotechnic Insanitarium.
7. To Iain Sinclair (3 sheet autograph copy fax, 5 June 1999), commenting on two books by Sinclair (Liquid City and Rodinsky's A to Z of London) and describing a visit by car (with Claire Walsh) to see the Millennium Dome and its environs, which provided 'a completely new impression of east London'.
8. To Victor Sira (single sheet copy letter or fax, 14 March 2005). A forthright communication concerning Richard Prince and 'the spurious "interview" you enclose'. The communication is printed on the verso of a discarded typescript page from Millenium People, with corrections (white correction fluid).
9. To V Vale. Four fax communications (as signed typescripts) referring to: a proposed interview (by telephone or fax); to J G Ballard: Quotes (2004) and related royalties matters; with comments in the final fax on Ballard's health. The messages are dated:
- 17 November 2004;
- 18 January 2005;
- 29 January 2005;
- 5 August 2007.
10. Addressee not indicated (copy typescript, without date or signature). Comments by Ballard in support of a first novel by Vernon Hopkins, 'One of the Boys'. Ballard refers to Hopkins as 'my neighbour'. The novel is 'partly based on his years as a professional musician with Tom Jones and The Squires'. The book appears not to have been published.
